It’s NOT a Party Anymore!

Today I am going to go in a totally different direction.  I cannot write about party planning when we have just witnessed the worst massacre in our country’s history.  And to me what makes it even worse, is that it was one of us – an American.  One of our own brutally planning and executing an attack on innocent lives. The act was just sick and inconceivable.  My heart and prayers are with those whose lives were unexpectedly cut short and the lives of all those there, that will never be the same.

I would like to acknowledge the heroes in this tragedy.  Just like there were so many heroes during 9/11.  The first responders, the husbands that laid on top of their wives to protect them, the boyfriends that covered their girlfriends, the older man who covered two younger girls and told them “he had lived a good life”, the guys that helped the girls climb over a fence to get away, the guys that actually ran toward the shooter to absorb the bullets and keep others from getting hurt. I am sure that more and more stories will come out overtime of unsung heroes who saved a life or gave their own life to protect others.  Then there are the stories of the people bringing cases of water to the venue and reports of all the volunteers lining up to give blood to help those injured.

Jason Aldean was performing his last song when the shooting started.  He has since cancelled his next few shows in Southern California.  No doubt all 20,000+ people will be impacted for the rest of their lives.  Please continue to pray for the victim’s families, those injured, those providing medical care and those ultimately providing PTSD counseling as well as the hotel staff that saw the gunman in and out of the hotel for 4 days prior.  It will be a long road towards healing.  We have yet to see the ripple effects of this tragedy. May our country put aside our differences and rally around not only these people, but those in Puerto Rico, Houston, Florida and up the east coast, and those in Mexico City.

What comes to my mind at this time is from Psalms 23 – “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me”.  One last verse that is in my heart at this time is from 2 Chronicles 7 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.” Boy does our country need healing. Until next week – let’s all get on our knees!

“Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love. Peace begins with a smile.” Mother Teresa

Thank you, Jill, for lovely, healing words to help overcome the shock and anger over such a senseless act and for your request that all keep praying. Prayer and hugs to those affected.
