Milestone Events

Have you noticed recently that more milestone life events are being celebrated?  Not only are they celebrated but they are being celebrated in an over the top style.  Take for example pre-K and kindergarten promotions, now celebrated with Moms and Dads decking out their little one in a cap and gown.  This was once reserved for those of us who graduated from middle school, high school, or college. Hey – why not!

Recently one of my longtime friends posted on social media that she had just become aware of “smash cakes”.  Maybe you haven’t heard of it either. It is exactly what it sounds like, small cakes that are ordered for a child’s first birthday and then used by the child to destroy/play with/smash all over their face and hands.  All to the delight of the parents and friends and family invited to the event.  Our grandchildren both got over sized cupcakes for birthday #1 and it was a hoot watching them dive in!

Smash cakes and milestone birthdays are just some of the events being planned more and more and with continuing “elaboraticity” (my new word).  How many of you dressed your kindergartener in a cap and gown when he/she was promoted from kindergarten to 1st grade?   Or from pre-k to kindergarten?  For around $20-25 you can purchase a cap and gown (complete with a tassel!) for your child. Pretty cool!

We also are celebrating “baby gender revealed” parties, divorce parties, amongst all the “standard” events like weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers, engagement parties, new year’s eve, holiday parties, super bowl parties, memorials, etc.

How does one keep up and stay organized with all the events you can or will plan?  I am interested to hear how you keep your events organized and how you decide how big and elaborate your events will be.
